Biohome Ultimate Filter Media

Biohome Ultimate is a premium sintered-glass filter media that effectively removes ammonia, nitrite and nitrate from the aquarium water. It is ideal for freshwater aquarium filters such as canister, HOB and sump filters.

It contains special properties such as added trace elements and open-pore structure allowing beneficial bacteria (aerobic and anaerobic) to populate within the media, turning each piece of media into a bio filtration powerhouse.

New Biohome Ultimate takes just 2-3 weeks to reach its optimum bio-filtration capacity and can quickly remove ammonia, nitrite and nitrate from aquarium water.

1 kg of Biohome is capable of treating 3 tons of freshwater, so only a small compartment is sufficient for Biohome to work.

BIOHOME ULTIMATE

Biohome Bio Media contains added trace elements that make good bacteria grow much faster. It has a porosity of no less than 50%. You can see for yourself how extremely absorbent Biohome Ultimate is by submerging one side in water. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the water is drawn up the entire length of the filter media. Thanks to its structure, the filter media has an extremely large contact surface (inside and outside) where good bacteria can develop.

Other brands are only able to remove ammonia and nitrite, but Biohome Ultimate allows both nitrifying (aerobic) and de nitrifying (anaerobic) bacteria to colonize due to its unique structure. The nitrifying bacteria, you can create full cycle filtration which also breaks down nitrate. This results in better water quality, so fewer water changes are required.

Biohome Filter Media products can easily be used in combination with pH increasing or decreasing products. The added trace elements are intended to promote the growth of good bacteria and do not affect water composition.

Trace Elements

Titania, alumina, ferric oxide, lime, magnesia, potash, soda, phosphorus pentoxide, chromium sesquioxide, manganic oxide, zirconia, hafnia, zinc oxide, barium oxide, stronia, stannic oxide, and sulphur trioxide.

Biohome Bio Media is not a prefilter and does not function as a mechanical filter. It serves most effectively as a biological filter. Always have a good mechanical filter or prefilter before using BIOHOME.

BIOHOME functions best in the last stage of the filter (last chamber) before water is discharged into the pond/ aquarium.

Optimum eficiency is under zero light levels however BIOHOME does operate in shaded environment.

Not a bacterial or chemical additive

BIOHOME provides the maximum possible surface area and void space for natural waste removal using non-toxic, industry grade materials and engineered micro tunnels within the pellets. Porosity extends through the pellet, meaning air can actually be blown through the centre of new pellets by mouth.

Biological filtration troubleshooting

Artificial aquatic environment must allow for removal of excessive solid waste, proteins and oils. Trace elements buildup through evaporation and depletion of other elements are also a factor to consider. We recommend a small, slow, regular exchange of water to maintain trace elements balance in household aquaria.

Medications should always be used with extreme caution as many will kill off beneficial bacteria and most are detrimental, especially antibiotic treatments. Stable high quality water prevents many diseases.

Filter mat, foam, gravel clay, carbon lava, coral, or moulded plastics

support only limited bacterial growth for removal of some nitrogenous compounds. Consequentially these materials are more suited to degassing and/or ion exchange than to effective biological filter operations.
